Premarital Counseling – Marriage Counseling
Today research indicates that nearly 2 out of 3 marriages end in divorce but for those who go through a premarital counseling class that percentage is lower. Most individuals spend more time preparing to get a drivers license than they do to get a marriage license, which is one of the most important decisions they will ever make. We have become a disposable society that believes that if you don’t like this spouse get a new one; and the damages of such a mentality are being born by the children. Strong families are the bedrock of Texas, the state of Texas in partnership with other national programs have developed the “Twogether in Texas” program that permits couples who take 8 hours of premarital counseling from an approved counselor to waive both the cost of their marriage license and the 3 day waiting period. I am an approved counselor for the program. This is one of the most important decisions a couple will make in life and 8 hours is very little to spend to help guarantee that their decision is made wisely, and that they will have the tools to make the important adjustments during the first year of marriage. One of the main benefits of premarital counseling is that the couple also develops skills to deal with issues that arise during the difficult first year of marriage before they arise making their adjustments less problematic.
What others are saying about Twogether in Texas: “I came to this class merely to get the fees waved from our marriage license. But as I listened, I really started to enjoy this class. I learned a lot more than what I thought I already knew. I loved it. It’s a great program. I don’t regret coming here at all.” – Beaumont
